A 1% Club contestant has made history after winning a whopping £194K (AU$390,627) from the show’s “easiest question ever”.
Host Lee Mack was on his regular presenting duties on Tuesday as he quizzed 100 contestants who hoped to make it through to the final, and be in with a chance of scooping life-changing money.
Towards the end of the episode, contestant Michelle was battling it out against fellow hopeful Nathaniel for a huge cash prize of £194,000.
Revealing the 1 per cent question that would seal both their fates, Lee asked: “Heidi Abbi Bedhead just got a new bank card. If the picture below displays the first 12 digits of the card number, what are the final four?”
Michelle answered 8514, while Nathaniel locked in his choice of 9214.
Viewers quickly took to social media after the question was revealed, sharing their answers on X.
One wrote: “8514. The numbers are the letter of the alphabet so ‘head’ is 8514.”
Another declared: “I got it 8514, it was easy tonight.”
As many viewers correctly identified, the numbers on the bank card correspond to the alphabet, and spell out Heidi’s full name.
So, the twelve digits on the card spell out Heidi Abbi Bed, with the remaining letters – head – meaning the missing digits would be 8514.
While many fans of the show were delighted to have got a 1% question correct, many argued that it wasn’t hard enough.
One viewer shared: “That’s a 1% question … seriously? That is by far the most EASIEST 1% question.”
Another voiced: “That was probably the easiest 1 per cent question ever”.
While one viewer chimed: “That must be the easiest 1per cent-er in the history of the show.”
Michelle’s answer was indeed correct, securing her a whopping £194,000 (AU$390,627) cash prize – the biggest in the show’s history.
Astonishingly, the contestant has also rolled over to Wednesday’s episode. which gives her the chance to add more to her already six-figure chunk of cash – with the possibility she faces Nathaniel again in the final.
The historic result was confirmed on the show’s official X page, as they posted: “Michelle becomes the biggest winner of The 1% Club with £194,000 (AU$390,627) and she rolls over to tomorrow’s show.
“Could she win again tomorrow?! Or could Nathaniel get to the end again? And will he win? More rollover again 9pm Wednesday night”.
Michelle becomes the second record-breaking jackpot of the year, taking the title from contestant Matthew, who had only broken the record himself back in February this year.
He bagged a life-changing £99,000 (AU$199,327) when he answered the final question of the challenge correctly.
The final question was an anagram – and saw five competitors in with a chance of the prize.
Yet the other four admitted they were clueless, leaving Matthew to theorise a word and send it through.
After a short pause, show anchor Lee Mack told him his response was correct.
He confirmed the response was ‘elephant’ which prompted a huge smile and fist pump from the contestant, who donned an orange shirt and glasses for his TV stint.
Lee then told him: “Congratulations Matthew! You are the winner to everything in the prize pot! That’s £99,000!”
