Vancouver Canucks continuing to receive trade interest in Elias Pettersson: report

The Vancouver Canucks have made some big changes as of late, and may not be done just yet.
The hockey world was abuzz on Dec. 13 when it was announced that the Canucks had traded Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild. Though there were already plenty of signs, this deal confirmed that GM Patrik Allvin and his staff are transitioning into a rebuild stage.
One player who has been subject to plenty of trade rumours dating back to the 2024-25 campaign is Elias Pettersson. The 27-year-old is having another disappointing season with 22 points through 29 games, but is less than three years removed from a career-high 102 points. The elite level of play early on in his career is tough to look past, and may still be enough to see him get traded going forward.
As reported by Patrick Johnston of The Province, there continue to be teams across the NHL who are reaching out to the Canucks regarding Pettersson’s potential availability.
“Have heard from a good source that teams are still calling about Pettersson, though, as another source said, what are other teams really going to offer?” Johnston wrote.
That is the exact question everybody is wondering, as Pettersson is in just the second year of an eight-year contract that carries an $11.6 million cap hit. After managing just 15 goals and 45 points in 64 games in 2024-25, it’s hard to imagine the Canucks landing much of a return for the once very-promising Swedish centreman.
Pettersson, of course, isn’t the only Canuck to be struggling this season. In fact, with the Hughes trade, he is currently tied for the team lead in points with Conor Garland and Filip Hronek.
To no surprise, with the low scoring totals, the Canucks have struggled this season. They are currently dead last in the NHL standings with a 15-19-3 record.
