A famous comedian and the woman who led the women’s England Rugby team to victory are among those who have been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours list.
Somerset and the surrounding towns and villages has been strongly represented in the King’s New Year Honours list, with dozens of individuals recognised for their contributions to sport, public life, culture, education, health and community service across the region.
Among them include Sarah Massey, the Managing Director for the record-breaking Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 in England. This was a landmark event that saw the Red Roses win their first World Cup since 2014, setting attendance and viewership records, and inspiring a new era for women’s rugby, with Massey’s leadership crucial in making the tournament a massive success. Her role involved delivering a tournament that showcased brilliant rugby and boosted the sport’s profile, leading to huge success on and off the field, as confirmed by Sport England and World Rugby.
