Star delivers epic ton, Perth eyes insane streak after huge statement — BBL LIVE

Aussie star Mitch Marsh has broken his BBL run drought in epic fashion for the Scorchers with Perth piling on the pain in Hobart.

After reaching double figures (16) just once in his past four matches, Marsh was on from the opening ball as he sent Hurricanes star Chris Jordan over the rope.

And the power hitting just carried on from there as he brought up his century off just 55 deliveries.

“It’s just been raining boundaries,” David Warner praised on Fox Cricket.

“It’s almost like he’s playing Shane Warne 99 at the moment!

“Everything has hit the middle and is going in the gaps.”

“If you had 15 fielders out, it wouldn’t matter at the moment,” Aussie great Mark Waugh added.

Just hours after being named captain for Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign to come early next month, Marsh went on the attack at Ninja Stadium in a bid to break Hobart’s incredible nine-game win streak at the venue.

He brought up his half century off just 33 balls, while down the other end Aaron Hardie (94* off 43) was also firing.

Together, the duo overcame a rough start for the visitors when Finn Allen (16) was bowled by Nathan Ellis and Cooper Connolly (4) – after wearing a nasty low blow – skied Mitch Owen to leave Perth 2-53.

Hobart veteran Matt Wade would be lamenting his early drop of Marsh – the second missed chance of the match behind the stumps for Wade.

Marsh was on 18 when he got the leading edge. A diving Wade couldn’t reel in the catch – despite getting a glove to it, and to add insult to injury, the Perth star got four.

“You’ve got to catch that,” Waugh said of the dropped chance.

“Leading edge … Just late on it.

“You’ve got to catch them at this level.”

From there, Marsh and Hardie put on a 164-run stand – a record third wicket partnership in the BBL before the Aussie star (102 off 58 balls) was caught on the rope with five balls to come.

Remarkably, for the third time this BBL Perth posted a 200-run plus total.

The Scorchers finished 3-229.

SCORCHERS EYE NEW YEAR’S REVENGE

The Perth Scorchers will be out for revenge against the reigning BBL champions when the two sides face off in Hobart on New Year’s Day.

Less than a week after the Hurricanes travelled to Perth and came away with a four-wicket win, the Scorchers touch down in red-hot form off the back of their second 200+ score of this BBL summer.

They’ll be without Josh Inglis who returns to Australian Test duties; likewise the Hurricanes lose Beau Webster for the same reason.

But Hobart are also without star all-rounder Tim David who has been ruled out of the remainder of the series with a hamstring issue suffered while batting in Perth.

They do have home ground advantage though and that has been crucial for a Hobart team now boasting a nine-game winning streak at Ninja Stadium.

The second of the BBL New Year’s Day matches gets underway at Ninja Stadium from 7.15pm AEDT.
