Five flights have been cancelled so far at Manchester Airport this morning (January, 5).
Three flights have been cancelled to Amsterdam due to wintry weather in the Netherlands. There have been a number of delays and cancellations to and from Schiphol Airport in recent days amid the freezing cold snap.
The flights cancelled to Amsterdam are the Easyjet EZY2161 at 7am, the KLM KL1030 at 9.05am and the KLM KL1032 at 11am. A post on the Schiphol Airport website said: “Due to winter weather and aircraft de-icing, flights on Sunday 4 January and Monday 5 January may experience delays or cancellations.”
Another two flights have also been cancelled to Belfast and Aberdeen. These are the Easyjet EZY701 to Belfast International at 7am and the Loganair LM022 to Aberdeen at 8.30am.
The cancellations come as Met Office forecasters warned of travel disruption this morning amid freezing temperatures. A snow and ice warning is in place for our region until midday.
The Met Office said: “Snow and ice has the potential to cause disruption to travel in places Sunday afternoon through to Monday morning.”
The forecaster added: “Snow showers are expected to push further inland across Wales, parts of northwest England, the West Midlands and southwest England during Sunday afternoon and evening. Along windward coasts, some rain and sleet is likely, but inland showers will fall as snow.
“Whilst not all locations in the warning area will see snow, 1-3 cm could develop in many places by Monday morning, with the potential for 5-8 cm to build up in a few locations, particularly across inland and higher parts of Wales. Icy stretches are likely to form widely.”
