Gisele Bundchen’s Family Thinks Her Wedding to ‘Penniless’ Joaquim Valente Was ‘a Mistake’

Gisele Bündchen and her Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor baby daddy Joaquim Valente may still be in the honeymoon phase after tying the knot in Florida December 3, but her family is not so pleased, according to Page Six.
“Her family warned her that marrying a penniless guy when she is worth millions is a mistake,” a source told the newspaper.

Supermodel Bündchen, 45, who divorced NFL legend Tom Brady in 2022 after 13 years of marriage, is estimated to have a net worth of $400 million. She met Valente, 38, when she brought her and Brady’s son, Benjamin, 15, to take classes at the jiu-jitsu academy in North Miami Beach Valente co-owns with his two brothers. Bündchen then began taking classes herself, and by June 2023, she and Valente were officially an item, according to People. They welcomed a son in February 2025—a major reason they decided to wed.

“Her family told her to just live with him,” said the Page Six source. “But between Valente‘s pressure and her being a traditionalist, she felt since they have a child, they might as well marry.”

The outlet reported that Bündchen and Valente do in fact have a prenup, but that her family fears it is not strong enough. “There is a prenup, but with some loopholes that mean if they divorce there will be a financial settlement for him,” said the source.
