Adam Beckerink, Chicago news: Attorney charged with murdering wife Caitlin Tracey in South Loop high-rise

CHICAGO (WLS) — A man accused of murdering his wife at a South Loop high rise is back in Chicago appeared in court Tuesday.

Tuesday morning, CPD announced charges against Adam Beckerink in Caitlin Tracey’s murder. Tracey’s parents and their attorney arrived at the Cook County Courthouse Tuesday ahead of Beckerink’s court appearance.

She was found dead at the bottom of the stairwell in his South Loop condo building in October of 2024.

Beckerink has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of murder/strong probability death/injure issuance of warrant.

Chopper7 showed Chicago police detectives walking Beckerink into the station at Belmont and Western.

He was extradited here from Michigan, where he served a sentence for domestic violence against Tracey.

A murder warrant was issued for Beckerink one year after Tracey was found dead, her foot severed and her body pulverized.

Now, after months of serving his sentence in Michigan, Beckerink was served a governor’s warrant signed by JB Pritzker for first degree murder to bring him back to Illinois.

The I-Team recently asking Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling about the case in a candid sit-down interview.

“The detective division dedicated hours and days and months to this to make sure that they brought justice to someone by getting this person charged,” Superintendent Snelling said. “Sometimes these things are lengthy. They take a little time and you have to do a lot of digging to make sure that you get the right evidence and build that strong case.”

He is expected to go before Judge Susana Ortiz Tuesday.
