Celtic Make Contact for Croatian Striker

Celtic have expressed interest in NK Celje striker Franko Kovacevic, according to journalist Mark Hendry.

The club is believed to have made contact with the Slovenian side to inquire about the conditions of a potential deal.

Kovacevic, 24, has enjoyed an impressive campaign so far, scoring 11 goals in 14 league games and providing two assists. He’s also shown his pedigree in European competition, netting five times in the UEFA Conference League group stage, three in the qualifying rounds, and four more during Europa League qualifiers.

Celtic scouts have reportedly tracked the striker’s performances closely in Slovenia’s Prva Liga. The player is valued at around £2.5 million, and although Celje are keen to retain their star forward, they are braced for bids.

Ferencvaros are said to have already tabled an offer, with Ujpest and Levski Sofia also monitoring the situation. With growing interest from across Europe, any hesitation from Celtic could leave them at risk of missing out.

The Hoops remain in the market for attacking reinforcements as Martin O’Neill looks to strengthen his squad in the January window.

A striker is the number 1 priority for the Hoops; it’s needed desperately. A few have now been linked, but Celtic have crucially made contact here.

It’s one to keep an eye on, for sure.
