Federal agents serve warrant at northeast Lincoln residence, sparking outrage from bystanders

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Homeland Security investigators led a law enforcement operation in a northeast Lincoln neighborhood on Tuesday evening, sparking outrage from bystanders who suspect that it was an ICE raid.

While details are slim, 10/11 has been in contact with local law enforcement and confirmed that Homeland Security was leading the operation to serve a federal warrant at a multi-unit residence near 32nd and Orchard streets.

10/11 reporters at the scene witnessed multiple people with rifles and other combat gear, wearing labels identifying them as Homeland Security, FBI and U.S. Marshals.

The Nebraska State Patrol and Lincoln Police were also on the scene, but officials say they were focused on peace-keeping and working with the crowd of several dozen neighbors and bystanders who formed around the house as the investigation unfolded late Tuesday afternoon.

Homeland Security agents led a law enforcement operation in northeast Lincoln on Tuesday evening, serving a federal warrant at a multi-unit residence.

Some of those bystanders, including Juaquin Trejo who claims to know the family living in the home, reported that multiple people had been arrested. A 10/11 reporter witnessed one person being taken into custody from the home, which the crowd loudly protested against.

“Told all of us to stay back. Kicked the door in … they didn’t show no papers, no warrant, no nothing,” Trejo said.

He adds that he and the other bystanders came out to support their neighbors.

“We got little kids running around, we got family members around here,” Trejo said. “Everybody gotta be safe around here, look out for each other.”

10/11 has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security, ICE and the FBI’s office in Omaha for more information, but so far have not heard back.

LPD would also like to remind residents that immigration enforcement remains a function of federal law enforcement, and the department does not participate in arrests or transportation of those placed into custody for immigration violations.
