‘Slo Pitch’: Everything We Know About the Forthcoming Lesbian Softball Show

Fresh off the breakout success of Heated Rivalry, the Canadian streamer Crave is preparing to drop another LGBTQ+ sports show — this time with lesbians, beer, and softball.
Rather than focusing on the high stakes drama of major league hockey, the upcoming series Slo Pitch takes a more grounded approach, following the misadventures of an underdog queer softball team. And it gets better: the show was co-produced by Elliot Page’s production company, Pageboy Productions.
Curious how you can get your Canadian lesbian softball fix on a small screen near you? Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about Slo Pitch.
What is Slo Pitch about?
Slo Pitch is based on a Canadian web series of the same name that previously aired from 2020 to 2022.
According to the show’s official synopsis, the 10-episode mockumentary takes place in “the world of beer league sports, where Joanne Pico is to coach six-team league losers, The Public Lass Brovaries.”
“Coach Joanne is dead set on turning this team around despite having just been dumped by her girlfriend and co-founder of the team,” the synopsis continues. “Throughout the summer, Joanne leads her lovable, chaotic crew through a season of strikeouts, petty rivalries, conservative-politician sponsors, and sexy carwash fundraisers gone wrong. With her ex now playing on a rival team, Joanne’s got a lot to prove this season. It’s time to win the breakup, get the gang back together, and maybe even find new love over beers in the dugout.”
Who will be in the cast of Slo Pitch?
Jess Salguiero, who played Eve in the Frasier reboot series, stars in Slo Pitch as Coach Joanne. Emily Hampshire, who TV lovers might recognize from her role as Stevie Budd in Schitt’s Creek, also appears in the show and serves as an executive producer.
Although the Public Lass Brovaries are losers onscreen, the fictional team will get a visit from a real-life women’s softball icon: guest star Ayami Sato, who became the first woman to play in a Canadian men’s professional baseball league and the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) when she joined the Toronto Maple Leafs last year.
