The Egyptian national team concludes its journey in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, facing Nigeria in the third-place playoff.

The Pharaohs suffered a narrow defeat in the semi-final against Senegal, losing 1-0, while the Super Eagles fell to Morocco on penalties, 4-2, after a goalless draw in regular time.
It won’t be an easy task for the Arab side, especially as they are up against an opponent with a flawless record in third-place matches.
A daunting record
Nigeria has won all 7 of its appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations third-place playoffs.
In the 1978 edition, they defeated Tunisia 2-0, then edged Cameroon 2-1 in 1992.

Nigeria also recorded back-to-back victories over Mali in 2002 and 2004, winning 1-0 and 2-1 respectively, and overcame Senegal in 2006 with a 2-1 result.
With the same 1-0 scoreline, they triumphed over Algeria in 2010 and Tunisia in 2019.
How has Egypt fared in the third-place match?
Egypt has played in the Africa Cup of Nations third-place playoff on five previous occasions.
They defeated Ethiopia 3-0 in 1963, overcame Ivory Coast 3-1 in 1970, and thrashed Congo 4-0 in 1974.
