Large police presence reported in Burnaby

A significant police presence was reported in a Burnaby neighbourhood Thursday evening.
Several callers to 1130 NewsRadio around 6 p.m. reported seeing multiple police vehicles in the area of Canada Way and Smith Avenue.
A white tent was later visible at the scene.
The Burnaby RCMP has asked the public to avoid the area.
“Police are on scene on Canada Way between Boundary Road and Curle Avenue due to an active investigation,” Mounties said on social media.

Burnaby RCMP officers could also be seen in an alley off Royal Oak Avenue near Deer Lake Park, where a vehicle fire was reported, around the same time. It isn’t clear if the two scenes are linked.
