Seahawks have a ‘Kobe Bryant’? Well, it’s Coby, and he’s named after NBA legend

You might hear the name “Kobe Bryant” during the NFC Championship Game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams.
That’s actually Coby Bryant, though, the Seahawks’ talented defensive back.
He is named that for a reason, exactly what you might think.
Who is the Seahawks’ ‘Kobe Bryant’?
He’s a cornerback, Coby Bryant.
Bryant was a collegiate star at Cincinnati.
He’s originally from Cleveland, Ohio, where he played at urban powerhouse Glenville Academy under Ted Ginn Sr.
Is Coby Bryant related to Kobe Bryant?
No, he’s not related to the NBA legend.
But he is named after Kobe, just with a different spelling.
“My parents loved Kobe Bryant and everything he brought to the table, not only as an athlete but as a human being himself and how he carried himself,” Bryant told reporters in 2022. “So that’s somebody that they ultimately knew right away that that was somebody they wanted to name me after.”
Coby also wears the jersey number 8 for Kobe, as that was one of two numbers he wore during his NBA career (along with 24).
