Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Conor Coady on loan from Wrexham AFC.
The 32-year-old defender, who joins until the end of the 2025/26 season, brings a wealth of experience to the Addicks’ ranks having represented England at international level and spent the majority of his playing career in English football’s top two tiers.
Coady becomes the Addicks’ sixth signing of the window following the arrivals of Harry Clarke, Lyndon Dykes, Luke Chambers, Tiernan Brooks and Jayden Fevrier.
Managing Director James Rodwell commented: “We’re really pleased to sign Conor. He’s an excellent defender who brings vast experience from the top two tiers of English football. He’s also a strong leader and a fantastic character.”
Manager Nathan Jones added: “We’re delighted to add Conor. He is a player of immense experience and someone who has played at the highest level and played for his country. His leadership and his qualities are something we feel we needed at this time. At this point, we really felt we could utilise his leadership going into the last 18 games.”
After putting pen to paper, Coady said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. I’m super excited to play in front of the supporters and get going. When I got the opportunity to come to this football club, it filled me with excitement. You want to be part of football clubs like this it’s a huge club and I can’t wait for the first game.”
Born and raised in Liverpool, Coady progressed through the Liverpool academy, and was first loaned to Sheffield United ahead of the 2013/14 campaign, when he played 50 games in all competitions for the then-League One club.
The centre-back joined Huddersfield Town on a permanent deal in August 2014 and played 48 times for the Terriers, before securing a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2015.
The defender spent eight highly successful years at Wolves, captaining the club and making 317 appearances. Throughout his time at Wolves as club captain, the team secured the Sky Bet Championship title, achieved promotion to the Premier League and qualified for the Europa League. He played every minute of the club’s 2019/20 Europa League campaign, helping them reach the quarter-finals.
During his time in the Premier League with Wolves, Coady earned 10 caps for England. Towards the end of his spell at Molineux, he spent the 2022/23 season on loan at fellow Premier League side Everton.
Coady subsequently left Wolves in July 2024 to sign for Leicester City, playing a key role in helping the Foxes lift the Sky Bet Championship title in his first season at the King Power Stadium.
During his time with the Foxes, Coady made 43 appearances before joining Wrexham ahead of the 2025/26 season.
