Mariah Carey will sing in Italian, Andrea Bocelli and ‘White Lotus’ actress Sabrina Impacciatore also set to appear

Erin Jackson, speedskating Olympic champion, and Frank Del Duca, bobsled Olympian, are Team USA’s flag bearers for the U.S. delegation at today’s opening ceremony.

“Jackson and Del Duca were chosen by a vote of fellow Team USA athletes through a process led by the Team USA Athletes’ Commission, which serves as the representative group and voice of Team USA athletes,” according to a press release from the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

This is Jackson’s third Olympic Winter Games, where she’ll defend the 2022 gold medal she won in Beijing in the 500 meters. She’ll also compete in the 1,000 meters.

“Being chosen to represent the United States on the world stage is a tremendous honor,” Jackson said in a statement. “It’s a moment that reflects far more than one individual — it represents my family, my teammates, my hometown, and everyone across the country who believes in the power of sport.”

In 2022, Del Duca made his Olympic Winter Games debut in Beijing. He is part of the U.S. Army’s World Class Athlete Program and a sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed in Lake Placid, N.Y.

“Nearly everyone in my family is of Italian descent,” Del Duca said. “There is no greater honor than leading Team USA into the opening ceremony in Italy. It feels like a bridge between my family’s heritage and the country I’m so proud to serve.”

Jackson is the eighth U.S. speedskater to be a Team USA flag bearer, while Del Duca is the sixth bobsledder to carry the flag.
