Petitition for country icon to replace Bad Bunny at Super Bowl LX has 128,000 signatures

Could Bad Bunny be replaced as the halftime act for Sunday’s Super Bowl LX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots?
No. Not happening. Nope.
But spend some time on social media, and you might see folks suggesting this could still be a thing. And considering the fact that it is very much not a thing and never was, those unfamiliar with the social media rumblings might wonder why folks would ever think that to begin with.
Well, it turns out, the root of the whole thing appears to be a Change.org petition that was started up calling for country music legend George Strait to replace the Puerto Rican superstar.
That petition currently has more than 126,000 signatures.
“The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most watched music performances worldwide, celebrating not just the sport but the cultural tapestry of America,” the petition reads. “In recent years, this performance has leaned increasingly towards modern pop and international artists. While this approach certainly broadens the audience, it’s pivotal to remember the roots that have made American music what it is today.
“George Strait, known as the ‘King of Country,’ embodies the heart and soul of American music,” it continues. “With over 60 No.1 hits and more than 40 years in the music industry, George Strait is not only a legend in the country music genre but a staple in American musical history. His ability to transcend generations with his timeless songs resonates with a diverse demographic, welcoming both longtime fans and newcomers.”
The petition said the 2026 Super Bowl “offers a unique opportunity to pay tribute to American music’s rich heritage by featuring George Strait in its halftime show.” It makes the case that a performance by Strait “should unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly, not be turned into a political stunt.”
“Bad Bunny represents none of these values; his drag performances and style are the opposite of what families expect on football’s biggest stage,” the petition continues. “Again, George Strait embodies unity, tradition, and the timeless American music that truly deserves the 2026 Super Bowl spotlight.”
George Strait is a legendary artist, no doubt. But this Sunday still belongs to Bad Bunny.
The good news is that folks who don’t dig Bad Bunny can always tune into Turning Point USA’s Super Bowl halftime show to see if headliner Kid Rock sings his song — “Cool, Daddy Cool” — about loving underage girls.
