Patriots legend calls out Tony Dungy to his face over Bill Belichick snub

SANTA CLARA — Rodney Harrison is still going to bat for his former head coach.

Ahead of Super Bowl 60, Harrison was doing a pregame segment with Tony Dungy, and called the longtime Colts coach out over Bill Belichick’s Hall of Fame snub. Dungy was one of the 50 voters this year.

“Any list that doesn’t include Bill Belichick at the top is absolutely wrong,” Harrison said. “A lot of those (Hall of Fame) players we’ve mentioned, they’re great players. I’ve played with Drew Brees, I’ve played with Adam Vinatieri. But there’s nobody more deserving to be in that Hall of Fame than Coach Belichick. I’ve seen his greatness.”

From there, Harrison got even more pointed with Dungy.

“I’ve seen him design defenses to stop your offense,” Harrison said. “You just look at the players that he’s impacted, he’s been unbelievable. When I look throughout the Hall of Fame and even a guy like Tom Brady. Tom Brady wouldn’t be Tom Brady without Bill Belichick.

“That’s the disappointing part of it, Coach,” Harrison said. “You guys got it wrong.”

The safety played under Belichick for six seasons in New England, winning a pair of Super Bowls.

Dungy, a Hall of Famer, wouldn’t reveal whether or not he voted for Belichick during Super Bowl week. Belichick needed at least 40 of the 50 votes, and didn’t hit that 80% mark, which meant the legendary Patriots coach would not be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
