One of the biggest names in junior golf is set to play collegiately in the Sunshine State.
Charlie Woods, a junior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, announced his commitment to play at Florida State on Feb. 10.

He will join Miles Russell, the current No. 1 player in the American Junior Golf Association’s Rolex Rankings, in a star-studded Florida State recruiting class from the Class of 2027.
The verbal commitment puts to rest uncertainty around Woods’ college recruitment, which opened in earnest last summer. In December, he was the only player in the Top 10 of the AJGA’s rankings who had not committed.
Rumors had been circulating in Tallahassee for months regarding Woods’ potential future with the Seminoles. FSU men’s golf head coach Trey Jones was at Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills on Nov. 15 to watch Woods compete in the final round of the FHSAA Class 1A state championship. He was seen talking to the elder Woods while Charlie shot a team-best 68 to lead the Bucs to a state title.

Speculation regarding Woods’ collegiate future often included Stanford, where Woods’ father, a 15-time major champion, played in 1994 and 1995 before turning pro. Woods’ older sister Sam currently attends Stanford.

Woods’ commitment to the FSU is the latest milestone in a spectacular rise over the last year. He was ranked No. 838 in the AJGA’s rankings in March 2025 but soared more than 500 places to No. 14 overall after his victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May 2025.
Tiger Woods lauded his son’s improved performance and newfound recruiting interest in December.
“It’s fun to be a part of the process with Charlie and go through it and see where the opportunities that he has that he has created for himself by playing better, places that he could play, wants to play and ultimately we’ll decide where he wants to go play,” Tiger said of his son ahead of the Hero World Challenge.
Woods has a decorated varsity golf resume as a key member of the Benjamin boys golf team, which has been one of Florida’s best in recent years.

He won a state championship last fall with Benjamin School as the Bucs’ No. 1 seed. He also won a state title as a freshman in 2023 and the Bucs finished as state runner-up to Oxbridge Academy in 2024.

Woods is currently ranked No. 21 in the latest Rolex AJGA rankings.
Among other rankings services, Woods is No. 43 in the Universal Golf Rankings’ boys junior poll and No. 61 in Junior Golf Scoreboard’s boys rankings.
