Snow to complicate Tuesday evening commute in Greater Montreal

Snow is expected to make the evening commute difficult across Greater Montreal on Tuesday, Environment Canada says.

The federal weather agency issued a yellow weather advisory Tuesday morning for Montreal and surrounding areas, warning that winter road conditions could complicate travel during the trip home from work.

Snow is forecast to begin around the evening rush hour, with up to 10 centimetres expected by late overnight.

Environment Canada warned road conditions could deteriorate quickly, with snowfall rates at times reaching two centimetres per hour, reducing visibility.

Snow is expected to accumulate rapidly, making roads slippery and creating rapidly changing travel conditions, the agency said.

The weather system is forecast to first affect Ontario and the Outaouais region, where special weather statements were already in effect Tuesday morning.

In the Ottawa-Gatineau area, between seven and 12 centimetres of snow are expected, beginning late in the morning or early afternoon and continuing into the evening.

After moving through Greater Montreal, the system will continue east. Snow is expected to reach Quebec City in the evening and continue into Wednesday morning.
