Police were called to the store in Avenue of Remembrance around 2.50pm on Sunday (February 15).

When officers arrived, the suspects had already left in two vehicles.

But they were identified by the Community Safety Unit and traced to the Sainsbury’s supermarket in Faversham.

Around 40 minutes later, three women were arrested inside the Bysing Wood Road store while they were allegedly found trying to de-tag items.

A fourth woman was detained in a vehicle outside.

When officers searched the vehicles, they uncovered more than £3,000 of goods, including cleaning products, chocolate and other groceries.

The four women, aged 16, 21, 23 and 45 and all from London, were arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop and handling stolen goods.

The 23-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

They have all been released on bail until May 15 while inquiries continue.
