War is finally kicking into gear between these Targaryen factions. Sure, we had a taste of some dragon battle in season two (and it was chilling), but the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet is haunting nearly every frame of the new teaser trailer for House of the Dragon’s penultimate season. Clearly, little time has passed since season two’s secret rendezvous between Alicent and Rhaenyra, as the teaser opens with Rhaenyra telling her Team Black council about it. “Alicent came to Dragonstone. She will open the gates of the Red Keep and surrender to me,” she says. Okay, hot. But her son Jace doesn’t seem to agree. “You cannot trust her,” he retorts before we eventually see him flying off to battle.
The new season comes out this June, in time for Pride Month, which is great timing for the show that gave us Rhaenicent, the best ship in the expanded Game of Thrones universe. (Knight of the Seven Kingdoms did really try, but sorry, these star-crossed queens are too good to beat.) So who locked Rhaenyra in that closet room? Are she and Mysaria going to address that moment from last season? Could we add Alicent to that mix? While we’re at it, are we going to get something going between Gwayne Hightower and Ser Criston Cole or what? Also, c’mon, Daemon spends most of the trailer just calling Rhaenyra “Queen.” As he should.
