Lindsey Vonn Shows Off Her X-Ray … And Yikes

“As you can see, it required a lot of plates and screws to put back together but Dr [Tom] Hackett did an incredible job,” Vonn wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Dr [Randall] Viola for the surgery assist as well!!”

“I’m bionic for real now,” Vonn wrote in introducing the photo on X.

Accompanied by a video of her being wheeled in her hospital bed, Vonn added, “With the extent of the trauma, I’ve been struggling a bit post op and have not yet been able to be discharged from the hospital just yet… almost there. Baby steps.”

Vonn, who won gold in the 2010 downhill, was attempting to make an Olympics comeback at age 41. She had already ruptured her ACL just days before the Games. She fell just seconds into the downhill at the Games and was airlifted to a hospital.

This past week she revealed personal heartbreak as well. Her dog Leo died the day after her accident.

“This has been an incredibly hard few days,” she wrote. “Probably the hardest of my life. I still have not come to terms that he is gone.”
