Three South West cities set to be hit by 'Beast from the East' snow storm

As many as 31 cities across the UK including three in the south west are bracing for a snow storm, new weather maps reveal.

Snow maps show large swathes of the country will once again see snow this March, as early as Wednesday, March 11, in two weeks. Bristol, Gloucester and Bath set to see snow as freezing conditions return to the UK.

Advanced weather maps by WXCharts show large swathes of the country can anticipate the white stuff coming in a matter of days, initially blanketing the north of England and Scotland before turning to the midlands in the second week of March.

Meanwhile, flurries are expected in the south west of England, as well as London and the south – where between 2 to 4cm of snow could fall. During this time, temperatures are likely to plummet across the country, and could drop to as low as -4C.

According to the latest forecasts, parts of Wales, the Midlands, and northern England could turn white at different points, in addition to other areas. Snow could also make an appearance in the North West of England and Northern Ireland in the early hours of March 11.

A Met Office long-range forecast for early March reads: “changeable conditions are expected, with Atlantic frontal systems spreading across the UK, interspersed with drier and brighter interludes”.

“Rainfall will typically be heaviest in the northwest, with much less reaching sheltered eastern areas. Some parts of the southeast may be largely fine. Across high ground in the north, some snow is possible at times. Winds will probably be strong at times, with a risk of gales. Temperatures are likely to be near to or slightly above average,” the forecast adds.
