Fans at the 2026 Montana’s Brier in St. John’s will be treated to a match between two generations of Newfoundland and Labrador curlers Monday night as Brad Gushue takes on Nathan Young.

The two skips will face off at 7:30 p.m. NT at the Mary Brown’s Centre.

Fans were already flooding into the arena by 6 p.m., with a line spilling out the main gate and into the street. Attendance has been strong throughout the first draws, with another sellout crowd of 6,000-plus expected on Monday evening.

Team Gushue remains undefeated at this year’s national men’s curling championship, while Team Young is 2-2 through four matches.

Team Young qualified for the tournament after winning a provincial championship, while Gushue accumulated enough points from the previous curling season to get a pre-qualification berth to the Brier.

Speaking with CBC News before the tournament, Young said it was special to be able to be in the same pool as Gushue.

“It’s going to be very emotional for us, but I mean these are … curlers that we look up to every day for inspiration, on preparation and hard work and focus on the ice,” Young said.

“It’s going to be very cool.”

Gushue previously said this Brier will be his last, with plans to retire at the end of the competitive curling season.

“It’s been a big event for me for the last 25 years of my life,” he said. “If this one is the last one, it’s going to be pretty emotional.”
