‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2 Just Cast Some Major Players

Just when those A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms withdrawals were really starting to set in, HBO is here with some enticing season two news: three major characters have been cast, not a Targaryen among them. We’re already excitedly picturing how they’ll fit into Dunk and Egg’s next adventure, which will be based on George R.R. Martin’s “The Sworn Sword.”

Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) will be playing Lady Rohanne, aka the Red Widow, and is presumably being fitted with a very, very long red braid as we speak.

Babou Ceesay, so memorable as the manipulative cyborg Morrow on Alien: Earth, will be Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, a hedge knight with few of the honorable qualities we saw in Ser Duncan the Tall (and far worse hygiene, going by Martin’s description of the character).

And finally, Peter Mullan (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) will be Ser Eustace Osgrey, an aging lord whose meager castle, Standfast, is where Dunk and Egg end up at the start of “The Sworn Sword.” House Osgrey and House Webber, Lady Rohanne’s family, are neighbors in the Reach, and the story follows their conflict over the water supply during a punishing drought. Of course, this is Westeros we’re talking about, so there’s a ton of additional history and drama packed into that regional squabble, which we’ll see unfold across the season.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is now in production on season two, and presumably we’ll get some more casting news soon—though this trio probably represents the most crucial additions. HBO has said the new season will arrive in 2027.
