Millions in investment close to home from UK Government Local Growth Fund

Cllr Paul Griffiths, deputy leader of MCC and cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “This funding is about investing in the local economy and equipping people with the tools, skills, and spaces they need to thrive.

“From revitalising buildings to supporting local businesses and assisting residents in accessing training and opportunities, we are laying the groundwork for sustainable growth that benefits our local economy now and in the future.”

The council has developed a plan to boost economic growth, strengthen employment pathways, and improve access to high-quality training and support.

One of the key projects is GrowthSpace, which focuses on unlocking the potential of underused or vacant sites to create opportunities for new businesses and jobs.

The Monmouthshire Skills Centre will also benefit, will establish a modern training hub equipped with industry-standard facilities.

The council says the centre will help residents gain the skills and qualifications demanded by employers.

The programmes funded by the Local Growth Fund will take an inclusive approach, aiming to support both individuals and businesses.

Support will also be extended to food businesses in sustainable growth, as well as to entrepreneurs, small businesses, social enterprises, and rural businesses.

A range of targeted employability programmes will be developed to help people into education, training or employment, with a particular focus on young people and underrepresented groups.

It says the funding will help deliver sustainable, inclusive growth across the county.
