Blowing snow and strong winds could reduce visibility Tuesday morning as the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) continues to be under a special weather statement from Environment Canada.
Winds could reach 70 kilometres per hour, with isolated gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour, the weather agency warned in an update around 3 a.m.
Flurries off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are expected to affect communities well inland and reduce visibility, though significant snowfall accumulation isn’t expected in the GTA.
The special weather statement extends as far east as Kingston and as far west as London.
Areas north of Toronto, including Collingwood, Barrie and Orillia, are under snow squall warnings Tuesday morning. Heavy, blowing snow could make travel hazardous, with poor visibility and snowfall amounts of up to 15 centimetres expected, Environment Canada says.
The weather agency warns that local power failures are possible, and strong winds may toss loose objects or break tree branches. Commuters should prepare for quickly changing travel conditions.
The wind and snow are forecast to ease off later Tuesday morning.
