Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Ottawa and other parts of eastern Ontario, saying that heavy snow is expected at times on Friday.

Between five to 10 centimetres of snow is predicted to fall in the region and beyond from early Friday morning through Friday afternoon. The heaviest snow is expected to fall in the morning.

Roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

The statement also covers Gatineau. Check this page for the very latest information from Environment Canada.

Special weather statements, which appear in grey on the weather service’s map, give information about a weather event that is potentially significant or of interest but doesn’t quite reach warning-level criteria, which are shown in yellow, orange and red.

Friday marks the first day of spring.
