Valspar Championship: England’s Matt Fitzpatrick bounces back from The Players near miss to claim first PGA Tour title since 2023

England’s Matt Fitzpatrick birdied the final hole to win the Valspar Championship and claim his first PGA Tour title since 2023.
The Englishman, who finished on 11 under, shot a round of 68 for the third time this week to bounce back from last week’s agonising finish at The Players.
His late birdie edged him ahead America’s David Lipsky by one shot, with the contest appearing set for a play-off. England’s Jordan Smith was a further shot back, which Xander Schauffele finished on eight under after a magnificent 65 on Sunday.
Fitzpatrick led by one stroke ahead of the penultimate hole at TPC Sawgrass last Sunday but a par-bogey finish opened the door for Cam Young, who closed with birdie-par to win by a single stroke.
However he immediately put that near miss behind him to claim a first PGA Tour win since the RCB Heritage three years ago.
