GUIDE: What to know before Gamecocks’ second round matchup vs. USC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – After a dominating first-round win against Southern, the South Carolina Gamecocks are preparing to face the USC Trojans in a primetime matchup Monday night for a spot in the Sweet 16.
The Gamecocks have won all four games against the Trojans, including the three games during head coach Dawn Staley’s tenure. The two teams originally played a home-and-home series in 2013-14 and 2014-15, and they are currently in a two-year neutral site series, ‘The Real SC.’
The first game of the series was on in November of 2025, with South Carolina earning a 69-52 win in Los Angeles.
The Gamecocks withstood hot shooting from the Trojans in the first quarter to take a two-point lead into halftime. From there, they extended their lead with 48.6 percent shooting in the second half.
Joyce Edwards led all scorers with 17 points, and three Gamecocks finished with double-digit rebounds, with point guard Raven Johnson (11) joining Edwards (10) and Madina Okot (15).
The Gamecocks will look to key in on star Freshman Jazzy Davidson. the 6′1″ guard is averaging 18 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in a team that has been missing Juju Watkins, the top women’s basketball player from 2025.
