Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata
Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, is charged in Charles County with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and using a firearm in a violent felony after a fatal shooting that killed Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, and injured a second male victim, according to court documents.
According to the charging papers, officers with the La Plata Town Police Department were flagged down around 10:35 p.m. on March 22, 2026, near Radio Station Road and La Plata Road in La Plata in reference to a shooting. In the court filing, an investigator wrote that Webber “did shoot the victim causing his death.” The documents say witnesses later led police to the case that resulted in the charges.
Court records say one witness told investigators that Webber picked up two people from their workplace in a white Tesla and that Wells was already in the front passenger seat. That witness said the two men were arguing while the vehicle was moving on an unknown section of Radio Station Road.
According to the documents, the witness said, “During the argument, Webber pulled a gun out and shot the victim twice in the head.” The same witness said, “Webber pulled the vehicle over and asked W1 and W2 to pull Wells out of the vehicle, which they refused. W1 and W2 exited the vehicle and Webber drove off.”
A second witness told investigators that Webber picked them up from work and that there was a heated argument inside the vehicle. According to the charging documents, that witness said, “During the argument, he heard a gun shot go off. He exited the vehicle with W1 and they later flagged down a police officer.” The court filing also says both witnesses positively identified Webber as the shooter.
Investigators wrote that at 12:41 a.m. on March 23, 2026, a resident returning home to Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall found the body of Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, on the side of the road with blood on his head and upper body. The documents say patrol officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded and confirmed the victim was deceased. The records also show a separate assault charge involving a second male victim.
After the killing, detectives located Webber’s vehicle in Charlottesville, Virginia, and found him at a nearby hospital, where he was seeking treatment for an unspecified medical issue. He was arrested as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to Maryland. His extradition hearing is scheduled for March 27, according to his attorney.
Webber is a professional cornhole player and a quadruple amputee who lost all four limbs as an infant because of a bacterial infection. He later became known as the first quadruple amputee in the American Cornhole League. A video posted in January 2024 shows Webber loading and firing a handgun (Video can be seen at the bottom of this article). Investigators have not publicly detailed how he allegedly carried out the shooting.
