As April rapidly approaches, it is almost Easter, meaning Christians all over New England are preparing to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The Christian holiday can take place anywhere from March 22 through April 25, and this year, it falls in early April. Because Easter is a moveable holiday, all the holidays of the Easter season, such as the season of Lent, Palm Sunday and Good Friday, move with it, which can be confusing.

When is Easter 2026?
In 2026, Easter Sunday will be on Sunday, April 5. The holiday, which celebrates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead after he was crucified, is regarded as the holiest day in Christianity.
How is the date of Easter decided?
The Old Farmer’s Almanac explains that Easter Sunday changes dates each year because it depends on the lunar cycles of the Jewish calendar. While Easter Sunday can happen anywhere between March 22 and April 25, the holiday always falls on the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon, meaning a full moon that happens on or after the spring equinox.
This year, the spring equinox was March 20, and the first full moon following it is on April 1, making Easter April 5.
When is Lent 2026?
The season of Lent started on Ash Wednesday, which fell on Feb. 18 this year. Ash Wednesday always notes the first day of the season of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and prayer leading up to Easter Sunday.
Lent will last until Thursday, April 2, 2026, the last Thursday before Easter Sunday, also known as Holy Thursday.
When is Palm Sunday 2026?
Falling on the Sunday before Easter, Palm Sunday officially marks the start of Holy Week, or the week leading up to Easter Sunday. In 2026, Palm Sunday is on Sunday, March 29.
When is Good Friday 2026?
Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, falls on April 3, 2026. The holiday remembers the day that Jesus Christ suffered and died, rising three days later on Easter Sunday.
