San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres: Odds, Prediction

Safe to say neither team began their season as they had hoped, as the Giants were swept by the New York Yankees at home, and the Padres lost their opening series at home to the Detroit Tigers. Now, both teams are already looking up at the back-to-back defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers atop the National League West at 3-0.

Betting Analysis

Let’s take a peek at the baseball odds ahead of this NL West clash:

The offence has not come out to play yet for either of these teams. The Giants not only lost their first three games, but they also failed to score a run in two of them and scored just one run in their opening series finale on Saturday. It’s a 0-3 start against the spread (ATS) and a 0-2-1 start on Over/Unders on the game run total.

The Padres, meanwhile, scored two runs in each of their first two losses, and only scored three in their series finale win to salvage the set against the Tigers. The Padres are 1-2 ATS and 1-2 on run total Over/Unders.

San Francisco Giants

Right-hander Landen Roupp takes the hill for the Giants in this series opener. The 27-year-old enters his second full season as a starting pitcher, following a campaign in which his surface numbers appeared better than the underlying data. Roupp went 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA and a .8 WAR, but he pitched to a 1.48 WHIP in 106.2 innings.

In the Giants’ opening series, Helliott Ramos, Rafael Devers, and Luis Arraez led the way, each collecting three hits, while Matt Chapman recorded the lone RBI on a single that drove in Jung-Hoo Lee. The Giants struck out 27 times to 13 hits and just seven walks against the Yankees. In 2025, the Giants finished 19th in away OPS (.701) and 15th in OPS vs. RHP (.722).

San Diego Padres

Two-time World Series champion and veteran right-hander Walker Buehler takes the ball for the Padres in his team debut. Buehler struggled mightily with the Red Sox last year, pitching to a 5.45 ERA and -0.9 WAR, before finishing the year strong with the Phillies, pitching to a 0.66 ERA. Buehler has always been a big-game pitcher who’s done his best work in October, but has historically struggled in March/spring when ramping up.

In the opening series, Ramon Laureano was red-hot, collecting five hits in 12 at-bats, including the team’s lone home run. Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth each added three hits, while Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, and Manny Machado each added two hits. The Padres totaled 20 hits and nine walks to 25 strikeouts against the Tigers. In 2025, the Padres finished 18th in home OPS (.711) and 18th in OPS vs. RHP (.720).

MLB Prediction: Who Will Win Giants vs. Padres?

The Padres remain at home while the Giants make the trip down the coast to Southern California. Both teams bring a ton of roster continuity into 2026, but I like the Padres to notch a second consecutive home win, while the Giants fall to 0-4. I trust Buehler more than Roupp, and after that first series, the Padres’ bats appear to be ahead of the Giants’. The Padres also have a far more threatening lineup.

Best Bet: Padres Money Line (-115)
