XL bully killing latest: Aspiring rapper jailed for owning XL bully that mauled mother-in-law two days after ban

Ashley Warren has been jailed for 10 years after his XL bully dog mauled his elderly mother-in-law to death at his home.
The 42-year-old left the dog with Esther Martin, 68, when she was fatally attacked in Jaywick, Essex, on 3 February 2024.
The XL bully breed had been banned in England and Wales two days earlier.
Sentencing Warren at Chelmsford Crown Court, Judge Mr Justice Johnson said the defendant had not shown “any genuine remorse” for the attack.
The judge confirmed Mrs Martin was the first person to be killed by an XL bully after the ban came into effect, in a “sustained and repeated attack” that lasted at least 12 minutes.
Warren was also given an additional three-month sentence for possession of a bladed article, and a lifetime disqualification from keeping dogs.
