More rains in April? IMD predicts above-normal rainfall over most parts of India

India is likely to witness above-normal rainfall across most regions in April, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. However, the Northeast is expected to be an exception, where rainfall activity is forecast to remain below normal during the month, according to the IMD.

“The rainfall during April 2026, averaged over the country as a whole, is most likely to be above normal (>112% of LPA). Normal to above-normal rainfall is likely over most parts of the country except Northeast India. Below-normal rainfall is expected over many parts of northeastern India,” said the IMD in its monthly outlook.
