Lizzo is getting intimate with her latest confession.
The “About Damn Time” singer, 37, revealed in a recent appearance on the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast that she was in her 30s when she lost her virginity.
“I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy,” she told hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco during a March 31 episode. The singer won her first Grammy in 2020, nabbing three awards for best pop solo performance, best urban contemporary album and best traditional R&B performance.
“I lied about it for a long time,” the “Truth Hurts” songstress admitted, adding: “I feel a weight off of my chest right now.” Lizzo, who also shared that her first kiss happened at 21, said part of the decision to wait was “religious.”
“When we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn’t do anything before marriage. And then, I was just so scared. Like, nobody wanted to kiss me,” she said, joking later that when she did finally kiss someone, it was “terrible.”
“I was actually very upset about it,” she told Blanco, “because it was like a New Year’s Eve thing, and he like forced it on me. I was really mad, and I was like, ‘My first kiss is ruined.’ I was so mad.”
Lizzo went on to say that she would fib during her college days at the University of Houston to avoid questions about her virginity.
“We were all girling one night, and it was like, ‘Wait, Lizzo, are you a virgin?’ And I remember being like, ‘No!'” she recalled on the podcast. “I remember it was so embarrassing. I said, ‘I love the D’ … and it held me over for a little while.”
Lizzo has been dating comedian Myke Wright since 2021.
