Chelsea Legend to Snub Crystal Palace Despite Steve Parish ‘Admiration’

- Crystal Palace eyeing Frank Lampard
- Steve Parish a ‘long-term admirer’
- Chelsea hero wants to stay at Coventry
Crystal Palace are reportedly unlikely to convince Frank Lampard to leave Coventry City and replace Oliver Glasner. The English coach has been mentioned as a potential candidate to succeed the outgoing Austrian.
Lampard has rebuilt his reputation as one of the most highly-admired tacticians in English football. He has propelled Coventry to the top of the EFL Championship this season.
The Sky Blues are edging ever closer to returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2001. They have their manager to thank for transforming their team into the very best outfit in the second division.
Lampard Wants Coventry Stay
Lampard has Premier League managerial experience, having managed Chelsea and Everton. While he wasn’t an overwhelming success at either club, he did seal a top-four finish at Stamford Bridge despite a transfer ban.
The legendary former England midfielder also helped the Toffees avoid relegation in difficult circumstances. But a caretaker spell back with his former playing club left much to be admired.
Lampard has well and truly bounced back during his time in charge at Coventry. So much so that Football Insider reports that he’s earned Steve Parish’s admiration.
The report states that Parish is a “long-term admirer” of his managerial ability and is “keen to explore” the possibility of appointing him. But he’ll have difficulty doing so because the Englishman is thought to want to remain loyal to the Sky Blues.
The Championship leaders are “confident” he’ll still be in the dugout come next season. It looks increasingly likely that he’ll stay put rather than move elsewhere, whether that be at Selhurst Park or another Premier League club.
Not That Frank
Palace will be replacing Glasner, and Lampard is just one of many names who are linked with the club. It doesn’t just make sense from his perspective that he wouldn’t want to leave Coventry, where he has been a huge hit.
The Eagles rarely ever pay compensation for a manager, and reports claim they don’t wish to this summer. That’s why Thomas Frank is the favourite as he’s available after he was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Lampard will have a year left on his contract, so a fee will be required if Parish were to try and bring him to Selhurst Park. He’s overseen 43 wins and 20 defeats in 76 games with the Sky Blues.
