World Snooker Championship 2026: Who is Stan Moody? Crucible debutant profiled

Stan Moody will make his World Snooker Championship debut on Monday in the first round against world number two Kyren Wilson.
Moody, 19, is the youngest player at this year’s tournament and is currently ranked 44th in snooker’s world rankings.
He will become the first teenager since Judd Trump in 2007 to make their debut at the tournament.
In qualifying, Moody recorded wins over fellow Englishman Robbie Williams and China’s Jiang Jun to set up a Crucible clash with 2024 world champion Wilson.
Moody comes from Halifax, West Yorkshire, and turned professional in 2023 after winning the WSF World Junior Championship earlier that year.
He has been a regular at ranking tournaments since the 2024-25 season, having made his debut at the 2022 Snooker Shootout as a 15-year-old. There, he beat China’s Lu Ning in the single frame format.
That win earned him plaudits from snooker legend Jimmy White who then described Moody as a “serious player.”
In the second round, Moody lost to compatriot and regular practice partner Oliver Lines.
Last season, Moody appeared at 10 ranking tournaments and has matched that already this season, with the World Snooker Championship being his 11th of the campaign.
Moody has twice reached a quarter-final this season, doing so at the Wuhan Open last August and the British Open a month later.
His run in the Wuhan Open included a shock victory over former world number one Ding Junhui.
At the British Open, his journey to the last eight included victory over Wilson. Earlier this year, he also beat John Higgins at the World Open.
