Spoilers for Euphoria season 3, episode 7, “Rain or Shine.”
We all kind of knew the writing was on the wall for someone when Anora’s sister said that “if someone doesn’t die periodically, people get bored.” We just didn’t know who would periodically die. Sam Levinson has taken one piece off the chessboard ahead of the big finale. Nate Jacobs is dead. His loanshark buried him in the desert, giving Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) 72 hours to come up with the $1 million he owed. Alas, a rattlesnake got to him before she could. “That’s a cool way to go,” Jacob Elordi said in a post-episode featurette.
Elordi made peace with his character’s death. “Nate is someone who’s made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices,” he said. “It’s cool to see it all come to what it’s come to.” He was also at peace with really being trapped in a box with a snake. Not a rattler, but a baby boa constrictor (named Little Bitch). Add a little snake prosthesis, and there’s your non-bitey rattlesnake. “He was super cute. He was like real cuddly,” Elordi said. “He kind of just sat up next to me. No, it was nice, but he was real sleepy, sleepy snake. I had to kind of nudge him to get him to come up.”
Seems like there very well could be more deaths in the finale. Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) is finally, finally wise to Rue (Zendaya). But he may not even get to her, if Faye (Chloe Cherry)’s last-minute betrayal during the safe robbery bears fruit. We’ll all find out when Euphoria’s season — or series? — finale airs next Sunday.
Good night, sweet prince. May Kendall Jenner sing thee to thy rest.
