Man killed in exchange of gunfire at Birmingham motel was trying to rob another man, police say

A 20-year-old man killed Friday at a Birmingham motel was fatally shot when he tried to rob another man.
Birmingham police on Sunday identified the slain man as Donovan Hanberry.
Authorities said no criminal charges will be filed in the deadly shooting.
Officers were dispatched just after 4 p.m. to InTown Suites Extended Stay on Commons Drive.
When officers arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds.
Officer De’Rell Freeman said Hanberry was trying to rob the other man. The two men shot each other.
Hanberry was pronounced dead on the scene.
The second man, whose name has not been released, was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
