Norway soccer star Erling Haaland takes in Game 5 of Stanley Cup Final

What better way to unwind before competing in a high-stakes sports competition than by watching others compete in a high-stakes sports competition?

At least that’s what star footballer Erling Haaland believes, as he and the Norwegian men’s national team were in attendance for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday.

As the Carolina Hurricanes hosted the Vegas Golden Knights for a pivotal tilt with the series tied 2-2, Norway’s striker was seen on the jumbotron waving his complimentary towel and pumping his fist.

And if you’re wondering why Haaland is in Raleigh, N.C., when his team is set to take on Iraq in Boston Stadium on Tuesday for their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener, it’s because Norway’s official training camp was set up in Greensboro, N.C. The Drillos have been training out of the University of North Carolina Greensboro campus.

Haaland and his teammates are preparing for a much-anticipated return to the World Cup, with Norway qualifying for soccer’s grandest international tournament for the first time since 1998. This year’s World Cup will be just the fourth time Norway has participated, and they’ve yet to advance past the Round of 16.
