World Cup Today: Live news updates from around the 2026 World Cup

With Uruguay looking to equalize against Saudi Arabia, I thought to share with you, soccer fans, about Uruguay’s history at this tournament. While they may be struggling at the moment, they do have a proud history at the World Cup.

Uruguay hosted the first edition of the World Cup in 1930. They were champions in 1930 and 1950, one of six countries to win multiple World Cups. The other five are Brazil, Germany, Italy, France and Argentina.

The last best finish for Uruguay was fourth place in 2010. Uruguay reached the semifinals, anchored by Diego Forlan, before losing to Netherlands. In 2022, Uruguay failed to reach the knockout stage.

For La Celeste, hopefully a different outcome at the 2026 World Cup.
