The Denver Nuggets (1-1) travel to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves (2-1) tonight at Target Center in Minneapolis in a heavyweight Western Conference showdown.
Denver comes in off a big 133-111 win over the Phoenix Suns, showing off its depth behind stars Nikola Jokić, Aaron Gordon, and Jamal Murray.
Jokic has had a triple-double in each of his two games this season, averaging 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 12.5 assists. He’s off to a slow start scoring, but it’s by choice. The three-time MVP’s shooting volume is much lower. Jokic took just eight shots in the win over Phoenix — and he’s letting Gordon and Murray take the lead in scoring. Gordon is averaging 33.5 points over the first two games, and Murray follows with 24.0.
Minnesota, meanwhile, is 2-1 and coming off a win over the gritty Indiana Pacers last night. It wasn’t just the Pacers who were without their star: Anthony Edwards left the game early with a hamstring injury, and Julius Randle carried the team with 31 points to secure the victory.
With Edwards out for at least two weeks, the Timberwolves will rely on Randle, Rudy Gobert, and Jaden McDaniels to control the glass and slow Denver’s attack. But it’ll be an uphill task against the high-tempo Nuggets.
Predictions
The Timberwolves will struggle to keep pace with the Nuggets tonight. Expect a high-scoring game with Denver winning by double digits.
