THE finishing touches are being applied to a major new Bradford shopping centre, set to become the largest Asian mall in the country when it opens its doors.

Signature Mall launches this Saturday (May 16), housing 36 retailers and a “food gallery” featuring nine food outlets.

The development has transformed the previously vacant former Xercise4less gym on Preston Street in Listerhills into a lavish shopping destination expected to draw visitors from across the country.

Ornate chandeliers, palm trees, marble flooring and eye-catching sculptures make the mall a world away from the industrial surroundings on the outskirts of Bradford city centre.

The exterior of the building has been completely overhauled, with striking new features and embellishments added to the original plain brickwork.

Vibrant sculptures are scattered around the outside of the building – and are likely to prove a hit with younger shoppers eager to snap pictures for their social media feeds.

Yet it is only upon stepping inside that the full scale of the building’s remarkable transformation becomes apparent.

The interior bears no resemblance to anything else in Bradford, evoking the atmosphere of a luxury resort rather than a converted gym.

Planning permission to redevelop the building was granted in 2023.

Sukhjit Singh Dua, the mall’s owner, said: “We’ve had brands come from abroad, some come from Birmingham, from London. Others are local. It is a mix of brands.

“You can see that people have spent good money on these shop units, and we’ve invested a lot in the building.” The development is said to have generated 300 jobs.

Among the retail units are businesses offering beauty products, jewellery, menswear, womenswear and footwear.

Signature Food Gallery will house vendors serving Mexican and Turkish cuisine, alongside paratha, Chaat, Burgers, European Street Food tea and desserts.

The venue will accommodate upwards of 200 diners.

A statement from the company said the mall will bolster Bradford’s standing as a premier destination for multicultural retail and hospitality.

“The development has been designed to deliver a modern shopping and leisure experience while celebrating the rich cultural diversity and entrepreneurial spirit that defines Bradford and the wider Yorkshire region.

“Signature Mall is more than just a shopping destination, it is a celebration of culture, community, and entrepreneurship. We are proud to bring this exciting new development to Bradford and look forward to welcoming visitors from across the region and beyond.”

The mall will open its doors at 11am on Saturday, with the day featuring opening celebrations, entertainment, family activities and exclusive launch experiences for visitors throughout.
