Data coming into the FOX Forecast Center shows that a powerful nor’easter is set to develop this weekend, with increased chances for an ‘impactful’ snowstorm. Major cities along the I-95 corridor, like New York City, Philadelphia and Boston could see plowable snow totals, with the peak of the snow potential arriving Sunday night into Monday morning. Stick with FOX Weather for all the latest as the system develops:

NEW YORK – A significant nor’easter snowstorm is brewing for millions this weekend across the Philadelphia, New York City and Boston metro areas, as computer models try to pin down the complex forecast.

A number of factors must line up to produce blockbuster impacts, namely a slow and precise track along the northeast coast and enough cold air from Canada.

Snow totals for New York City and Philadelphia are forecast to be between 8-12 inches.

Meanwhile, Boston should brace for snow from 12-18 inches through Monday.

Forecasters are tracking storm energy that’s currently over the Rockies.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, as this system moves across the country and reaches the East Coast, it is expected to track offshore, and become a powerful coastal storm sometime Sunday.

Exactly how close to the coast that storm tracks will determine if the Northeast Interstate 95 corridor and other parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic see significant snow.

“Even a 50-100 mile jog east or west with the storm will result in less or more snow for millions,” the FOX Forecast Center said Friday.

Regardless of the amount, the primary snow window is expected to be Sunday night into Monday morning, potentially complicating the start of the workweek commute.

HOW HIGH PRESSURE AND LOW PRESSURE DRIVE THE WEATHER

As the chances of impactful snow increase, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Friday that city sanitation crews were preparing ahead of the storm.

“If you can, give yourself extra time to travel, check in on neighbors—especially seniors—and take it slow out there,” the mayor wrote on social media.

However, those models reversed course overnight, signaling a more impactful snowstorm.

HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER

While the forecast is not quite settled, many across the region are bracing for the latest blow in what has been the most active winter season in recent years.

Many cities across the Northeast still have snow on the ground from January’s historic winter storm.
