Aggie Beever-Jones on why England call-ups can’t be taken for granted | News | Official Site

When Aggie Beever-Jones scored a 30-minute hat-trick for England in a UEFA Nations League match against Portugal in May, it was a sign of things to come.
The Chelsea striker was selected as part of the Women’s Euro 2025-winning squad, and scored in a 6-1 win over Wales, then netted the opening goal in a 3-0 friendly win over Australia in October.
That takes her overall international tally to seven goals in 13 senior appearances for the Lionesses, and while it seems like she now has a firm foothold as part of Sarina Wiegman’s squad, Beever-Jones is not taking anything for granted.
‘I always feel that you never know with England, and that’s a good thing,’ said the striker before heading off for the international break. ‘I don’t feel comfortable, and I don’t ever want to feel comfortable.
‘I want to be able to work every single week between each camp and keep pushing. I was obviously delighted when I found out I was in, and hopefully I can go there and get some minutes and keep showing everyone – including Sarina – what I can do.
‘Representing my country is one of the greatest honours, and I love it. It’s nice to break from the club environment and get some new scenery, and then it’s great to come back refreshed and pick up with a few of the girls and hear how their camps went. So it works well in all aspects.’
Still only 22, Beever-Jones has worked her way through the youth ranks with both Chelsea and England to earn her spot in the senior side for both club and country.
Having worked hard to receive those opportunities, her gratitude for where she finds herself at this point in her career shines through when she reflects upon her journey.
It’s evident she also wanted to make her mark this camp – she came on for the final five minutes in the 8-0 win over China PR and looks likely to start against Ghana after being put forward for media duties.
‘Hopefully, that’s the dream,’ she replies when asked about the prospect of adding to her England tally. ‘Scoring for your country is always something you dream of growing up.
‘Having my family support me throughout, from the under-14 and 15 levels, all the way to the under-23 side and then the senior squad and being able to do it at the highest level is an absolute dream come true.
‘I want to keep going, enjoying my football as much as I can, and hopefully everything else will fall into place.’
