Taylor Swift might not have ended up as the most-streamed artist on Spotify of 2025 — that honor goes to Bad Bunny — but her album The Life of a Showgirl is easily the biggest release of the year in America. The full-length is fronted by the single “The Fate of Ophelia,” which has continued to perform well in the two months since the singer-songwriter first shared it with the masses.
Swift has cleverly helped keep “The Fate of Ophelia” atop multiple Billboard charts by releasing several high-profile remixes, including most recently with Grammy-winning electronic dance duo The Chainsmokers. Purchases of all editions of a tune, including collaborative updates and remixes, are typically lumped together by Billboard for charting purposes, and as “The Fate of Ophelia” sells well enough to rank as the top-performing track in the nation, it advances again within the star’s discography and nearly ties her all-time sales record.
“The Fate Of Ophelia” Becomes America’s Bestselling Song Again
“The Fate of Ophelia” returns to No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, Billboard’s weekly roundup of the bestselling tracks of any style or language on platforms like iTunes and Amazon. Swift trades places with country newcomer Ella Langley, who recently ran the show with “Choosin’ Texas.” That cut dips to second place as “The Fate of Ophelia” regains control over the roster.
“The Fate Of Ophelia” Hits Half a Dozen Weeks at No. 1
“The Fate of Ophelia” has now commanded the Digital Song Sales chart for half a dozen nonconsecutive frames. The tune debuted atop the roster on the tally dated October 25 and has only vacated the penthouse once since.
“The Fate Of Ophelia” Nears Taylor Swift’s Career Record
As it reaches half a dozen turns in the spotlight, “The Fate of Ophelia” breaks out of a tie with “Anti-Hero,” “Bad Blood” with Kendrick Lamar and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” to solely claim the honor of being Swift’s second-longest-running leader on the Digital Song Sales tally. All of those tracks, which are counted among the biggest in her discography, topped the list for five frames.
Only “Blank Space” is currently beating “The Fate of Ophelia,” and the two may be tied soon. “Blank Space” launched at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales list in November 2014 and spent seven of its 24 stints somewhere on the tally at No. 1.

In the most recent tracking period, “The Fate of Ophelia” was easily the bestselling single in America, and it did not face any competition when it came to capturing the No. 1 spot. “Choosin’ Texas” only sold a little under 8,400 copies in the same timeframe – about one-third of what Swift’s current focus accomplished.
“The Fate of Ophelia” sold so well that Swift’s cut racked up more purchases than the rest of the top five on the Digital Song Sales tally combined. That roundup includes “Choosin’ Texas,” as well as “For Good” by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo (No. 3), “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters (No. 4), and the first solo single by Kevin Jonas, “Changing” (No. 5).
“The Fate Of Ophelia” Sales Jump More than 300%
The Chainsmokers’ reworking of “The Fate of Ophelia” seems to be largely to thank for its return to prominence. Purchases of the Life of a Showgirl smash improved by 365% from one week to the next, corresponding directly with when the pair dropped the upbeat version.
Taylor Swift Leads All Stars on the Sales Chart
Swift is far and away the most successful artist in the history of the Digital Song Sales chart. She leads all names with 30 No. 1s, and “The Fate of Ophelia” helped her reach that milestone. Nicki Minaj comes in second place with 17 champions.
Throughout her career, Swift has racked up 190 placements somewhere on the purchase-centric list, with 96 of those cuts finding space between Nos. 1 and 10.
“The Fate Of Ophelia”Tops Multiple Global Charts
In addition to the Digital Song Sales chart, “The Fate of Ophelia” also sits at No. 1 on all of the following Billboard rankings: Hot 100, Streaming Songs, Billboard Global 200, Billboard Global Excluding U.S., Pop Airplay, and Adult Pop Airplay rosters.
