ASU coach Bobby Hurley ejected in last seconds of half vs Santa Clara

Forward Marcus Adams explains his improvement with ASU basketball

Arizona State basketball forward Marcus Adams goes into detail on how he has improved for the Sun Devils.

The Arizona State Sun Devils are headed to the second half in Las Vegas against Santa Clara in the Jack Jones Hoops Classic, but head coach Bobby Hurley won’t be on the sideline.

Hurley was ejected after drawing two technical fouls with four seconds left in the first half at Lee’s Family Forum. ASU was trailing, 49-38, when the stoppage of play occurred. Hurley objected to the physical nature of play and argued his team was not getting the benefit of the doubt.

Christian Hammond made four free throws to extend the lead to 53-38. The Broncos had the ball and got another bucket by Hammond at the buzzer for a 55-38 lead. Those were the second and third technical fouls called against Hurley this season.

Nick Irvin will serve as head coach in the second half.

Hammond had 18 points in the half while Moe Odum had 12 for ASU. ASU had 10 turnovers, with Santa Clara scored 17 points off turnovers. Santa Clara was also 9-for-15 from long distance.

Both teams came in with 8-2 records. It also marked the 1,000th career game for Santa Clara coach Herb Sendek, who previously coached at ASU.
