2 found dead at LA home owned by director, police say

Police are investigating an “apparent homicide” after two people were found dead at the Los Angeles home of director and actor Rob Reiner.

Firefighters were called to a house in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, where they found a 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman, the LA Fire Department said. Both were pronounced dead at the home.

Officials did not immediately identify them or the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Rob Reiner is 78 and his wife, Michele, is 68.

Reiner is a storied Hollywood filmmaker whose movies include classics such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and This is Spinal Tap.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department told the BBC that they received a call at around 15:38 local time (23:38 GMT) for medical aid to a home on Chadbourne Avenue.

Brentwood is an upscale neighbourhood in LA and home to many celebrities.

Robbery homicide detectives from the LA police department also responded to the home and have opened an investigation into what they called an “apparent homicide”.

Once inside the residence, police said they found two deceased people. Their identities have yet to be confirmed.

Authorities also did not provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Reiner, who was a TV star in the 1970s playing Meathead in the groundbreaking comedy All in The Family, was married to actress Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981. He is the adoptive father to Marshall’s daughter, actress Tracy Reiner.

He later married Michele Reiner, an actress and photographer, in 1989. The couple have three children together, Jake, Nick and Romy.
