Somebody is extremely confident that Anthony Joshua is going to demolish Jake Paul LIVE on Netflix in just a few short hours. According to sports betting platform Polymarket Sports, a user just placed a roughly $1.3 million bet on Joshua to defeat Paul in their headlining boxing match, betting big that the former world champion outclasses the social media superstar.
Now, it is important to note that Polymarket Sports betting operates more like a stock market predictor than a classic bookie. The user’s bet fluctuates as money comes in and against Joshua, so the unknown gambler could win or lose money before the walkouts even begin depending on how they play their hand and how the odds swing. Of course, if they ride it out and the massive favorite wins, their bet will still cash.
Conventional odds peg Joshua as a roughly 13-1 favorite, meaning the payout on a straight up $1.3 million bet would be a cool $100k. As for how Polymarket specifically works, users online estimate a roughly 14% or $179k return.
Is it a sucker bet? By all conventional knowledge, Joshua should be able to easily mop the floor with Paul. Conor McGregor doesn’t expect it to last a full 60 seconds! However, it’s important to remember that anything can happen in combat sports. A single overhand right from Paul could eliminate the massive size and skill advantages Joshua will enjoy. Furthermore, there’s always a chance Joshua trips on his shoelaces and knocks himself out. All those fight-fixing allegations would have me concerned too if I was wagering $1.3 million …
